progress:

Runs and drives well, has had a recent oil change, new oil and air filter, fluids topped off. The timing belt was changed at 20,596km (7 years ago). Now, learning how to drive a stick shift..

2024-03-27: Truck arrived, transferred title and got it TN registered/plated, used "goof off" to clean up some adhesive on the bed rails, buffed out some marks on bed sides caused by old bed mat, and wiped down dusty interior

2024-03-28: Hand wash, black license plate screws and nuts, made a JDM to USDM license plate adapter

2024-03-29: Clean off flaking paint on fuel tank and gave it a fresh black coat, cleaned up gas and oil cap rust, penetrating oil on wiper arms

2024-03-30: New bed mat: Tractor Supply 4x6 Horse Stall Mat, parts order placed

2024-04-01: Removed bed latches and headache bar, wire wheel/sanded rust, rust converter, and primed all parts

2024-04-02: Sanded primer imperfections and sprayed another couple coats, then got rained out..

2024-04-03: First coats of black paint on latches, bolts, and headache bar, got wiper arms off by prying up wit the back side of an oscillating saw blade, cleaned up wiper arms

2024-04-04: Primed and sprayed wiper arms, more rack and latch coats, first clear coats on everything, parts order arrived

2024-04-05: Final clear coats on rack and latches, trim restore (Solution Finish) on wiper plastics, mirrors, rack light, and headlight surrounds. Reinstalled wipers, mounted rack and latches, installed tailgate chains (covered in braided nylon wrap), scraped more adhesice off bed rails

2024-04-06: Different plastic restorer on door cards, Solution finish on front bumper. Got spare keys made.

2024-04-07: Left the door card restorer on there overnight and wiped off today. Looking better. Cleaned engine cover gasket.

2024-04-08: The metal battery cover and front license plate arrived. I cut a piece of white acrylic and put it on the inside of the battery cover with heavy-duty velcro to make the letters pop and cover up the writing on the side of the battery. Ordered carpet floor mats.

2024-04-11: Replaced the missing left tailgate rubber bumper. Decals arrived. Took the rear mudflaps off. One looks like it had got stuck on the tire and the middle part of the "Honda" letters had rubbed off. Made a graphite rubbing of the good one and transferred the design to the bad one. Used an X-Acto knife to outline the shape so paint wouldn't extend past the boundary. Painted the letters with a white paint pen three times for full coverage, then masked around the letters and spraed with clear spraypaint. Used Solution Finish to restore the black color on the remainder of the mudflap, then reinstalled them.

2024-04-12: Painted the bed tie down hooks black with enamel nail polish and a brush. Two coats plus the occasional touch-up spot. Cleaned up the wheel center caps with a green Brillo pad on a random orbital sander, them primed them and sprayed with silver metallic paint. Several coats of matte clear and then put them back one. One fit a little loose, so I used pliers to adjust the tabs that hold it on the wheel.

2024-04-14: Decided to try another coat of plastic restorer on the door cards. Sprayed driver's side door frame bottom with rust reformer after knocking off surface rust and any loose parts around the small rust holes.

2024-04-15: Cleaned up and painted gas and oil caps with semi gloss black enamel paint and semi gloss clear. Doormats arrived and feel nice inside. THey break up the majority grey interior. Tune-up kit and extra air and oil filters also came today.
